Jazzfest Piano Keys on StreetMy studio will be closed this week, June 26 & 27  and next week for the CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival (RIJF) and the 4th of July. For 9 days each year in June, Rochester is taken over by the RIJF. The streets in the East End downtown are alive at night with music inside and out and thousands of people. If you have never experienced the RIJF you are really missing one of the best weeks in Rochester. You don’t even have to be a fan of jazz music to enjoy the festival. There are also plenty of incredible free shows. This past Sunday a local artist, Shawn Dunwoody and about 75 volunteers painted piano keys on the crosswalk at E. Main St. and Gibbs St. (renamed Jazz St. during the festival) in front of the Eastman Theater.

So I will be enjoying a different art medium this weekend at the RIJF. You should all come down and join me. But if you can’t make it, or even if you can, read all about it at My husband Jeff, has been busy covering the RIJF for WXXI and City Newspaper. He is also on the radio each afternoon this week at 5:45 on WXXI-AM (1370) and WRUR-FM (88.5) talking about the days events. And every morning through Friday he will be in the “Jazz Corner” on Scott Regan’s show “Open Tunings” on WRUR about 10:30, where they talk about their escapades the night before, play some tunes from their favorite shows.

But after 4th of July, I will be back at the studio for my regular summer hours, Wednesday and Thursdays, 1 – 6 p.m., First Fridays (August 2) 5 – 9 p.m. and First and Second Saturdays (July 13 & August 3 , 10) 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
