Fran's Quilt

Fran’s Quilt

Last month from First Friday through Second Saturday we had a very special fundraiser at the studio in memory of friend and fellow quilter, Fran Allen-Fintel. Fran’s sister-in-law, Shellee Williams-Allen, brought in some of Fran’s beautiful quilt fabric stash for the building-wide Art for Action event. We sold it for $1/yard to raise money for the Rochester chapter of the American Cancer Society in Fran’s name. We raised $319…that’s a lot of fabric at $1 per yard!

Unfortunately, Fran lost her battle with cancer last fall and she is greatly missed by so many people. The quilt you see in this post is a very special quilt that my Open Studio group, of which Fran was a regular, made for her when she was undergoing chemo several years ago. We came up with a design, pieced and set the blocks, basted and machine-quilted the quilt in just one 5-hour Open Studio. Shows what the power of love can do!

This weekend is both First Friday and Second Saturday. I will be at the studio Friday 5 – 9 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Stop by and see my recently completed Row-by-Row block, ROC Vineyards. Free patterns will be available at the studio starting June 21st. I am very excited about this year’s Row-by-Row event. I’m currently planning a big kick-off event on Saturday, June 22, at the studio. Stay tuned for details!
