About

You’ll find Quilting with Margaret in the historic Hungerford building in Rochester, NY. The Hungerford, at 1115 East Main St., is home to over 100 artisan studios. In her studio, Margaret Spevak makes contemporary quilts and quilted items like runners, funky potholders, pin-up oven mitts and other fun crafts which are for sale on First Fridays, Second Saturdays and whenever she is at the studio. She also has over 150 bolted Westminster designer fabrics for sale by the yard along with pre-cuts, patterns, books, notions and Fox River “sock monkey” socks.

Margaret has been teaching a wide range of quilting classes from beginner such as Double Irish Chain quilts and Machine Quilting to advanced like Stack-n-Whack kaleidoscope quilts and Double Wedding Ring quilts. She now teaches classes exclusively in her spacious quilt studio. In addition to teaching beginner and more advanced classes, she holds monthly Open Studios where students can work on finishing their own projects in a fully-equipped studio environment. She also teaches several workshops and weekend retreats every year at her studio. Margaret was one of the first instructors in the area to offer a day/midnight quilting retreat. Since 2006, she has been hosting a luxury quilt get-away weekend retreat at a resort in the nearby Finger Lakes region, with attendees from as far away as Ohio, Maryland and Colorado.

Margaret has a bachelor’s degree in home economics education from Ohio University and was previously a high school home economics teacher. An active member of the Rochester Modern Quilt Guild, she’s married and lives in Rochester with her writer husband, Jeff, and their Weimaraner, Abilene.

The above web site page refers to the quilt and soft doll show I attended back in the eighties.
