Quilting with Margaret's 2018 Row by Row Experience block designed by Jeanne Simpson

Quilting with Margaret’s 2018 Row by Row Experience block designed by Jeanne Simpson

Check out this fun block! It’s part of the International Row by Row Experience. Quilting with Margaret in colaberation with Jeanne Simpson will be participating in the Row by Row event this summer. The theme this year is “Sew Musical.” Jeanne Simpson designed our block with a special nod to Rochester’s music scene. It’s a Hawaiian applique inspired design. We will have several different kits to choose from or you can pick your own fabrics. We will also have some fun embellishment kits available. We chose an 18″ block because there are so many things you can do with it like making a small wallhanging, a tote bag or a pillow. Stop by the Hungerford building, Studio #309, to see lots of different ideas.

If you are unfamiliar with this event, it’s sort of like a shop hop but there are no fees or passports needed to participate. There are stores all over New York, the rest of the United States and even Canada and several other countries who all have designed a block or row to the annual theme. Then starting June 21st through September 4th, as you travel around New York and beyond, you can stop in participating quilt shops and pick up a free copy of their original block or row. Collect at least 8 different patterns, complete the blocks/rows and a make a quilt. Be the first quilter (before October 31st) to stop by a participating store with your completed quilt to be photographed for Facebook, and you will win 25 fat quarters. And if your quilt includes that particular store’s block, you will also win a special prize put together by that store.

Go to the Row by Row Experience website at to learn more about this event and find out which stores are participating. Then check the stores’ websites for their summer hours and stop by to pick up your free patterns!
