Quilts: Function Meets Art

20180901_122248Thanks to the help of some of great friends, we got all of the sleeves sewn to the back of my quilts last week for my first solo quilt show. Last Saturday we hung the show in the Little Cafe at the the Little Theatre, 240 East Ave. Last night Jeff and I went down to the Cafe to hear Margaret Explosion play with my quilts hanging all around the room. It was kind of surreal. People coming up and telling me how much they love the show. And what a departure my show is from the usual artwork that lines the walls. I even sold one of the quilts last night!

20180901_124313But I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. As a quiltmaker I know how warm and comforting quilts are. The bright bold colors liven up the room while the fabric and batting make the room more acoustic and warm feeling. It’s just exciting to see that even non-quilters get some of the same feelings that I do being around quilts. Sunday, September 9, is the official Opening Reception from 2 – 4 p.m. Stop down and check the show out for yourself. If you can’t make it Sunday, the show will be up until September 28. Hours at the cafe are Sunday – Thursday 5 – 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 5 – 11 p.m.

20180905_193047The Little Theatre, of course is the local art house theatre with 5 movie screens. The Little Cafe is in the back of the theatre and serves affordable dinners, snacks, beverages, beer and wine. The Little Cafe supports local music with live bands playing Mondays – Thursdays, 7 – 9 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays, 8 – 10 p.m. No cover, but tips encouraged. It’s always a great way to spend an evening! Also the Little will be participating in the Fringe Festival, September 12 -22.
