Makers Gonna Make Holiday Retreat

This year’s Makers Gonna Make Holiday Retreat at my studio #307 in the Hungerford Building (located at 1115 East Main Street in Rochester, N.Y.) will be November 2 -3, Friday through Sunday. Join other makers and create hand-made items, all perfect for holiday gift giving. The projects will highlight some of the newest fabrics available and you will learn special tips for working with them. The setting at my studio is a little more intimate than at a fabric store, so class size is limited. But my studio offers large tables with ergonomic and adjustable chairs, cutting stations and ironing boards with irons. If you are planning to attend, don’t delay registering or you may end up on a waiting list.

So here’s the lineup:
Friday, November 2, 5 – 9 p.m. Friday night is First Friday in the building. Set up your maker’s station, have a snack, then wonder the building to see what other artists and makers are up to. This is your chance to get inspired. Friday night is optional. If you prefer, you can wait till Saturday to set up your makers station.

Saturday, November 3, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Return Saturday morning for coffee, tea and a continental breakfast before starting our morning project: Learn how to easily add a zipper and make some of these fun Hippie Zips. Kits will be available for purchase. Enjoy a lunch break with a catered lunch. After lunch we will continue with another fun project: a Large Tote from an 18” Pieced Block like from one of the Row-by-Row Roc-N-Roll kits available at the Studio. Kraft text makes the lined tote sturdy and professional. Hardware kits for both projects will also be available at the Studio for purchase.

Sunday, November 4, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday morning we will begin with coffee, tea and a continental breakfast. Sunday morning we will make a fast and easy Ripple Runner.  This table runner pattern will be included but you can purchase your own fabrics from hundreds of bolts of designer fabrics available at the studio. Enjoy a lunch break with catered lunch before making a cork fabric purse. Learn how easy it is to sew with cork fabric.

All projects are easy enough for a beginner and will feature various sewing and quilting techniques. By the end of the weeekend, you will have new knowledge and techniques for working with various specialty fabrics. Your handmade projects will look totally professional and be worthy of gift-giving. All this, including some patterns and meals for just $150. Can’t beat that! Let the maker in you out and create some one-of-a-kind holiday gifts. Happy Holidays and I hope you can join us.
