I will now be hosting the annual Handmade Holiday Retreat at my studio #307 in the Hungerford Building at 1115 East Main Street in Rochester, N.Y. Also new this year, it will be earlier, November 13 -15, Friday through Sunday. And, instead of making one or two quilt tops, this year we will make 5 separate stand-along items, all perfect for holiday gift giving. All of the projects will highlight some of the newest fabrics and battings available and you will learn special tips for working with these different fabrics. I hosted the Sizzlin’ Summer Retreat at my studio last May and we all had a wonderful time. ┬áThe setting is a little more intimate, so class size is limited. If you are planning to attend, don’t delay registering or you may end up on a waiting list.

So here’s the lineup:
Friday, November 13, 6 – 9 p.m. We will meet and set up your individual work station for the weekend while enjoying some hors d’oeuvres and punch (recipes included). Then we will make a quick project, a small microwave bowl cozy. The pattern will be included and includes optional larger sizes if you later want to make a set. This has been one of the hottest sellers at the studio this year. It is made with Wrap-n-Zap microwave batting which I will have available for sale at my studio. You can leave your machine and supplies set up over the entire weekend.

Saturday, November 14, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Return Saturday morning for coffee, tea and a continental breakfast before starting our morning project: a simple chalkboard runner. Learn special techniques for working with this fun chalkboard fabrics as well as other project ideas which use this fun fabric. I will have chalkboard fabric available for purchase at my studio also. Then we will break for a box lunch. After lunch we will resume sewing and make a colorful oilcloth zippered bag. These bags are great for travel. I will have kits available for purchase at the studio. Also receive a bonus pattern for a coordinating oilcloth coin purse with a key ring.

Sunday, November 15, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday morning we will begin with coffee and tea followed by a hot Sunday brunch. We will spend Sunday making an eco-friendly wallet/wristlet made from a new product called Kraft-Tex which is washable and looks like leather, but is actually man-made. I will have several colors of Kraft-Tex available for purchase at my studio as well as the hardware needed and lots of contemporary 100% cotton fabrics by-the-yard. This project should take most of the day to make, but if you get done early, you can make an optional table scarf.

By the end of the weekend, you will have 5 stand-alone gifts and new knowledge on working with various fabrics which make your handmade projects look totally professional and worthy of gift-giving. All this, including patterns and meals for just $99. Can’t beat that! Happy Holidays and hope you can join us.
