Makers from last fall’s Handmade Holiday Retreat

Boy do I need a distraction from life! In mid April my 93-year old mom had a stroke. Fortunately I was sitting right next to her when it happened and got her to the hospital immediately, but quite scary to say the least. Good news…she pulled through, has her mobility and speech back and is recovering at an independent living place in Rochester. But if any of you have stopped by the studio over the last month expecting to see me, that’s why I haven’t been around. As of this week, I’m back to regular hours at the studio (plus a lot of extra days to catch up).

Right now I am preparing for my first summer Makers Gonna Make retreat which will be held at my studio at the Hungerford. This will be the first retreat I have held there since I expanded my space. Just what I need as a distraction from my life, how about you? What better way to spend a weekend than sewing and quilting with others in a creative environment?! I will supply the patterns necessary to make four fun projects, all gift-worthy. We will be making a cross-body bag just large enough to hold a tablet, a little duffle bag to stow your cosmetics or stuff (you choose the size), a lined apron for an adult or child (you choose) and a quick strip-pieced table runner. Learn some quilting basics, an easy method to sew in a zipper, and a fun and fast apron construction technique. I will have some hardware kits available for purchase to make your projects look truly professional.

This is not a sleep-over retreat, but you can set up your work station and leave your machine and everything there till the retreat concludes on Sunday afternoon. This will be two entire days of sewing from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. each day with breakfast and lunch included in the price. There will be an optional Friday night (no sewing) reception from 5 – 9 p.m. to set up your machine and work station, then wander the building during the monthly First Friday event to get creatively inspired for the weekend.

The cost of this weekend retreat is only $150. To register, let me know a.s.a.p., complete the downloadable brochure below and mail a check to my Grassmere Park mailing address listed on the brochure. Don’t wait too long to decide, since space is limited! Hope to see you the first weekend in June.
