Indulge Yourself

Annual Get-Away Weekend, April 18 - 21, 2013

We all need to treat ourselves once in awhile.  And what better way to indulge yourself than to treat yourself to a weekend away from all of the stress and pressure of everyday life?  Picture yourself sitting one of these Adirondack chairs looking out over beautiful Canandaigua Lake.  This is the setting at Bristol Harbour for my annual Get-Away Weekend. The dates are set for 2013, April 19 – 21, with an optional extra day, Thursday, April 18. And the good news is that the prices are the same as last year: $365 per person for a quad, $380 per person for a triple, $425 per person for a double and $545 for a single.  The extra night is an additional $150 and includes breakfast and lunch Friday and an extra night and day of quilting time.

Even the toilet paper is Adirondack-style.

Thirty-one of us attended this all-inclusive event last year, to spend a weekend of quilting, crafting, relaxing and making new friends.  At Bristol Harbour, you are pampered with comfortable rooms all overlooking Canandaigua Lake and equipped with comfortable queen size beds (or a king in the single rooms), gas fireplaces, heated tile bathroom floors, a small refrigerator and balconies where you can watch the deer graze in the lawn below.  The large new classroom area has a wall of windows all facing the lake.  The classroom is set up with plenty of ironing, cutting and basting stations.  Everyone gets their own table or work station.  A large stone fireplace gives the room a nice warm and cozy atmosphere.  The gourmet meals are generous and you will be treated with afternoon snacks and beverages all day long.

Jan Meyer won the signature block raffle in 2011 and shared her memory quilt from last year.

Throughout the weekend I teach an optional guided quilt project that goes together fast and easy, sometimes with a special technique included.  On Saturday afternoon, I do a short demo for making a fun little project that everyone receives in the free kit when they arrive.  But not everyone is a quilter who attends.  Last year we had a cross-stitcher and two scrapbookers who joined us.  Each year, everyone receives a signature block challenge prior to the weekend and the completed blocks are raffled off at the weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, everyone has the option of a free chair massage and on Friday there are optional spa treatments available for a nominal fee, including pedicures, facials and gelish nails.  Friday night relax at a complimentary wine tasting and on Saturday night enjoy a champagne hour before dinner in the rustic Adirondack dining room.  Before leaving on Sunday, share your creations during a huge Show & Tell with all of your new and old friends.  And last year the weekend got even better when we added an extra day, Thursday, making the weekend even longer.

This is an event to look forward to all year.  Plan ahead and sign up before September 30, 2012 and get a coupon good for one free class of your choice with me sometime before the end of 2013.  Or put a $100 deposit down before the end of June and pay just $55 in monthly installments.  For more details, click on the Get-Away page at the left and download a sign-up brochure.
