BIG News!

Posted By on April 12, 2012

I told you I would be sharing some big news with you this year.  Well, guess what I did yesterday?!  I signed a lease on my new quilt studio at the Hungerford Building downtown.  Yes, I now have a quilt studio away from my home.  A place where I can have uninterrupted time to quilt and create.  I plan to work at my new studio creating samples for my classes and hopefully do a little art quilting for myself.  I still plan to teach classes around Rochester as much as before.  I may add a class or two at my new studio in the future, but it will be very limited.  I will still be teaching most all of my classes at Jackie Lynn’s and the Scarlet Thread.  Also, my studio will give me a place to teach an occasional private lesson and a place to have my class preview sale open house (instead of at my home).  The main purpose of this studio is to reclaim our dining room table at home, separate my business from my home and to give me a space where I can get away from all of the distractions of home to do my work.  I think I will be able to get a lot more work done in a shorter length of time if I can “go to work” to do my quilting.  Also, I’m hoping that being in a space surrounded by other artists will help to increase my own creativity and enthusiasm in quilting.

Right now it’s just a big empty space, but I hope to start moving things soon.  Since my dog, Abilene, tore her ACL in January and had surgery the first of March, we’ve been going through a long, slow rehabilitation.  It has required one of us to be home with her 24/7, which means a lot of schedule juggling.  So I figure I’ll be doing good to get fully moved in by the first of June and not really setup until mid to late summer, when I hope to have a grand opening party to introduce my new space.  I will also be participating in the First Friday events, selling a few table runners and purses to help pay for this new venture.  I’ll keep you posted on future dates through this blog.  I can’t wait to get set up and show you my new space.
